I did a little pregnancy yoga which was good for gently stretching out muscles. I know of a few aerobic instructors who continued classes right up until the birth. But it is the same as normal excercise advise, if you are a very active person normally, you should be able to continue being active providing there are no complications, and if the Mum is not fit or active then just gentle excercise would be best such as walking, yoga and water aerobics is great too. Hope this helps :)

Yoga is fantastic as Barbara mentioned. Toning bands work wonderfully with higher reps for full body and the pelvic tilt exercise sitting on stability ball is huge especially if someone is delivering by c-section. I used to specialize in pregnancy workouts. Now I don’t pigeon hole myself w/ a certain clientele. Good luck.

Core strengthening and postural awareness is very important. Convincing people it is perfectly healthy and beneficial to exercise during pregnancy is the biggest hurdle to overcome first.

Surprisingly enough there’s a tremendous amount of exercises that pregnant ladies can now do.

As long as common sense prevails and you don’t do any kind of exercise that will obviously put excessive stress on your body and in particular your tummy.

All cardio is good also as long as you don’t overdo it as you mustn’t forget you also have to have enough energy for the baby as well!

yoga….not only is a great for the body…but it is awesome for the mind…which in turn will help eleviate or decrease stress which affects your baby as well as yourself.

Walking it the best exercise for pregnancy… I have had three children and that worked for me. I also feel very strongly about weight training and because I had been training before my pregnancy I also weight trained during my pregnancy. Women who have not weight trained prior to being pregnant need to be very careful, it isn’t always advised to start weights if you haven’t been training prior to there pregnancy. Women should get in shape before they get pregnant and then continue through the pregnancy… After all you are training for the biggest marathon of your life when it comes to the labor…

I truly believe Yoga, walking and light weights work wonders during pregnancy. During both my pregnancies (and after my first trimester – with approval from my OB), I practiced Yoga. It was easy on my joints and bones as they shifted. Once I became stronger, and I knew my baby was not only doing well, but growing rapidly, I added walking and a light weight workout (no more than 50 lbs on arms and 100-110 on legs).

All helped with my posture, and balancing and strength. I have had a few clients that I’ve worked with during pregnancy. A combination (based on the client and their health) seems to work best. It definitely helps if the pregnant woman in question likes Yoga, Walking or Weights.

Swimming and yoga worked great for me. Yoga is great preparation for delivery too. I was able because of the breathing exercises to really go with the contractions and manage my pain.

RPM was the best for me, I could exercise sitting down, worked up a sweat, then relaxed in the spa afterwards, ahhhh

Most doctors and trainers agree on the same thing–if a woman leads a very active lifestyle before pregnancy she can continue with the same routine during pregnancy, with a few adjustments as she gets toward the end of it, of course.
If a woman leads a sedentary lifestyle she should introduce moderate exercise, such as walking, light weights, stretching [i.e. Pilates, Yoga].

Walking and swimming. While it seems counterintuitive, the walking actually helps decrease ankle swelling.
